- I used to always think that the Hunger Games would be cheesy, or some science fiction romantic movie or something because that is what all my friends told me, but oh boy I was WRONG. I started by reading the book for summer reading and then I fell in love with it. It was one the best books I've read in my life next to Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. The protagonist Katniss Everdeen was a brave 16 year old in District 12 who would do anything to keep her sister Primrose safe. Katniss was brave enough to sign up for tessare and put in more ballots for the Hunger Games so that her sister would put in only one ballot and to provide food for her family - even though she would have to fight to the death if Katniss got entered into the Hunger Games. However, none of that ended up to matter because Primrose Everdeen was chosen to compete for the games at the reaping. This caused Katniss to volunteer as tribute to save her sister. Because there is a boy and girl tribute for the games at every district, the boy tribute in distrcit 12 for the 74th Hunger Games was Peeta Mellark. They both train at the Capitol until the Games begin and they run off in different directions. Towards the end, we find that there are two victors for the 74th Hunger Games. (There was only supposed to be one) The winners were Peeta and Katniss because of their near suicide with the nightlock berries. The capitol celebrates of their victory and they head back home to District 12. Even though the games are over, the adventure just begins. Overall, Suzanne Collins presents Katniss as a brave character because she is a strong competitior.
